Your City. Your City Hall. Your Day.

Dear Frankfurters,

this year’s Open Day at Frankfurt’s Römer is all about democracy. Because our democracy cannot be taken for granted, it must be consciously practiced and protected. Democratic values are on the decline in many corners of the world. This rightly worries those of us who enjoy the benefits of a liberal democracy.

In a democracy, there is a lot of discussion and debate about the best way forward for our society. Democratic processes are often cumbersome ‒ and not always easy to understand right away. In Frankfurt’s local politics and on 17 May at the Open Day you can experience and understand democracy in the literal sense on your doorstep.

Come to the Römer, meet your City Councillors, the representatives of the local consultative councils and the members of the Municipal Administration. Talk to us about your questions on Frankfurt politics. Take a look at our “Plenarsaal” (plenary meeting hall) and our meeting rooms, meet our parliamentary groups and find out about the work of the municipal offices and companies. They are the ones who implement the democratically made political decisions for you in the city. Democracy thrives on political knowledge – and on participation. This is your city, this is your city hall, this is your day. We cordially invite you and look forward to seeing you.
